We’re Finalists!

For the second year in a row, Windover is thrilled to announce that we are finalist in the 2020 Autodesk AEC Excellence Awards! These global awards recognize outstanding innovation that’s reimagining what is possible in the architecture, engineering, and construction industries. The shortlist of projects were selected from a field of 260 entries from 35 countries. Our project, Fuller Mixed-Use Venture in Gloucester, MA, is one of three finalists in the under $100 million construction category for building at the speed of innovation with BIM, automation, mixed reality, digital fabrication and more.

Fuller Mixed-Use Venture is a Windover-led joint-venture project located at the site that once held the Fuller School in Gloucester, MA. When complete, the 13-acre property will feature a new 65,000 square-foot Glen T. MacLeod YMCA for the Cape Ann community and Halyard, a new apartment community with 200 residential units, a clubhouse, and open-air retail space.

Throughout each phase of the project, including entitlement and permitting, Windover employed technology to communicate, collaborate, and inform. Data from drone mapping and laser scanning was captured weekly throughout the project to track construction progress and QA/QC, conduct stockpile analysis, and enhance communication among project stakeholders – further mitigating risk and ensuring accuracy and quality.

This novel approach to combining laser scanning and drone mapping is just one of the ways Windover is pioneering methods leveraging cutting-edge technologies combined with data to offer clients significant time and cost savings and mitigate risk.

Windover’s VDC team also combined digital prefabrication, 3D printing, and automation to produce 935 steel trusses at Autodesk’s Technology Center in Boston. These trusses were then assembled onsite by Windover’s field team in just three days using mixed reality technology. This innovative approach shed not only days from the process, but reduced costs by up to70%. While this method saved time and cost, the trusses were digitally prefabricated with the highest level of precision, quality, and sustainability.

Last year, Windover was honored to win not one but two Autodesk AEC Excellence Awards. Our project, Canvas, was the winner in the under $100 million construction category for combining our novel VDC technology solutions with modular construction. Our own Amr Raafat, vice president of VDC & technology, won the prestigious Innovator of the Year award.

This year, Amr will be kicking off Autodesk University with a theater talk on harnessing the power of each of these technologies by combining them to create innovative solutions to better the way we design, automate, and build.

The winners for this year’s awards will be announced later this month and honored in November at the Autodesk University virtual conference!
