With food at the focus, the Callahan Center offers a sustainable and innovative approach to service. As the main dining facility on campus in operation since the mid-1960’s, it was time for a much needed update to provide a more modern, expansive and student-friendly atmosphere. Windover’s assignment was to completely rehabilitate the existing 44,000 square-foot building, including a 24,000 square feet addition that wrapped entirely around the exterior of the building. Work was carefully orchestrated in a just-in-time pattern so as new spaces came online they were backfilled, allowing the building to remain fully operable throughout construction—dining services and student services at the Callahan Center remained open and available to over 1,200 students, faculty, and staff daily.
A Modernized Campus Hub
Completed in time for the new fall semester, the newly remodeled Callahan Center is the home to a health center, mailroom, counseling center, expanded student lounge and activities space, administrative office suites, book store, and an expanded dining room capable of accommodating 850 students. With bright colors throughout the building, large window expanses, and sustainable elements throughout, the building has been completely rejuvenated allowing it to be the main campus hub for socialization, dining, and gathering.
